Profiting From War
While I was watching “Iraq for Sale – The War Profiteers” (a movie by Robert Greenwald, who also did “Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price”, “Outfoxed” and “Uncovered” (some of which are available at the Hawaii Public Library)) I felt sick to my stomach. I am either incredibly naive or just not a “hardened businessman”, but the idea to profit from someone else’s hardships hurts. Sure, someone can justify that they are actually helping “rebuild” after the war, but at what cost; corruption, greed, no-bid contracts, etc…?
If you have the chance to watch the movie, you should. It’s not a pleasant experience — seeing the corporations (like Halliburton, CACI, and others) take advantage of a war situation, especially if you feel that the Iraq war was without a just cause — but seeing how the US government operates, and supporting organizations that are trying to make a difference, is definitely beneficial.

The crooks don’t have to get away, even if they are politically connected. There is a powerful weapon to take down companies who defraud the U.S. Government and taxpayers. The problem is that those who possess the weapon don’t know it exists. Under a unique federal law, ANYONE (including employees of defense contractors) who learn that a company is defrauding the U.S Gov’t can pursue the company to recover TRIPLE the amount it has defrauded from the government. If someone does so, they typically get to keep up to 30% of the money recovered, as a reward. To learn how, anyone can go to FederalFraud.com
